We build our overseas production for larger volume customers that need to keep their costs low to remain competitive while maintaining the quality of their products.

Here are a few things you should know when purchasing overseas decks

1 – There are actually few quality overseas manufacturers but there are a great deal of brokers who have very little understand of what they are selling, how its made and what goes into it. I guess in a sense, they are telling you the truth when they say ‘all maple’ because they really have no way of knowing. Before setting up our facilities, we looked at outsourcing but it was just to difficult to control.

2 – Most overseas decks are heat/frequency pressed due to the efficiency of the process and the climate where they are produced. (Southern china) Although, this method can yield good results, we know of no North American producer that uses it because it will create more warped boards and can also make the boards snap easier. This is mostly due to the difficulty in getting the curing perfect.

3 – You get what you pay for. This is sometimes forgotten but very true. You can buy a complete skateboard for 4$ in china but we are not sure you would want to ride it... The cost of maple is very high compared to other species in china and if all you are buying is price, you can probably find somebody to sell you a ‘100% Canadian maple’ deck for 5$ but ask yourself how this person does that when the raw materials to make a quality decks cost around that much.

4 – The real savings here are in more complex and labor intensive boards. Printed top and bottom, laser engraved or heat stamped and shrink wrapped. All of these features are labor intensive but are not expensive in terms of raw materials.
